Mississippi law enforcement endorse Attorney General Jim Hood
JACKSON, Miss. – Citing his experience, qualifications and job performance, 53 sheriffs and district attorneys from across the state have endorsed Attorney General Jim Hood in his 2007 re-election campaign.
Collectively, the endorsements represent the largest number of law officers and prosecutors to support any one candidate in this year’s elections.
“I am deeply humbled by the support and acknowledgment of these dedicated men and women,” said General Hood. “Like them, my first priority is enforcing the law and protecting Mississippi families. All of us in law enforcement depend on one another to make that happen, day in and day out.”
As an example, Hood cited the cooperative efforts of local law enforcement and district attorneys in fighting for new laws that have reduced the number of meth labs in the state by 71 percent and required drunk drivers who kill others to serve 85 percent of their sentences. Hood also pointed to the first-in-the-nation Cybercrime Center that has become a valuable resource for local law enforcement in their efforts to crack down on sexual predators.
Said Ben Creekmore, district attorney for Benton, Calhoun, Chickasaw, Lafayette, Marshall, Tippah and Union counties and president of the Mississippi Prosecutors Association: “Jim Hood’s experience and qualifications as a prosecutor are unmatched. He brings a wealth of knowledge to the job and understands what it takes to protect the citizens of our state. We must have an attorney general who possesses these skills and expertise.”
Forrest County Sheriff Billy McGee said, “As a former district attorney, Jim Hood is keenly aware of the job we do as sheriffs. Time after time, he has worked with us and supported us as fellow law officers. His efforts have made Mississippi a safer place to live and to work. We need General Hood for the next four years.”
